Administration Memo Directs Federal Agencies to Report Staff Reduction Plans

The agencies are instructed to collaborate with assigned DOGE personnel.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) have directed federal agencies to provide plans for reorganization and reductions in force by March 13. The memo expands on an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on February 11, which mandated significant layoffs throughout the administration to increase efficiency and lower the cost of running the government.

“The federal government is costly, inefficient, and deeply in debt,” the OPM and OMB wrote in the memo. “At the same time, it is not producing results for the American public. Instead, tax dollars are being siphoned off to fund unproductive and unnecessary programs that benefit radical interest groups while hurting hard-working American citizens.”

The memo continued, “Pursuant to the President’s direction, agencies should focus on the maximum elimination of functions that are not statutorily mandated while driving the highest-quality, most efficient delivery of their statutorily-required functions.”

The memo also instructs agencies to “collaborate with their Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team leads within the agency.”
